Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding
There is no better way to experience the
deep-rooted ties that Stowe has with skiing than on majestic
Mt. Mansfield - Vermont's highest peak. It's for this
reason that people come to ski Stowe, VT throughout
the ski season here in our town.. The Stowe Mountain Resort
was voted the "Top Destination
in the Eastern United States" in the November 2003 issue
of Skiing Magazine. Here's what they had to say:
"Stowe remains real, as it has
for 70 years. Thank a mountain that's come to define
- and occasionally refines - the concept of Eastern skiing.
At 4,395 feet, Mount Mansfield is Vermont's highest peak,
but more importantly, its flanks have been carved into
some of the most hairy, twisty, narrow slices of skiing
in North America. As for the future, follow a local into
any of the forest wormholes that line the pistes and
you'll know why the place also leads the East in the
tree-skiing revolution."
- Skiing Magazine, November 2003
Most of the resort's 48 ski trails were
hand-cut in the early 1900s - long before bulldozers helped
to get the job done. The famous "Front Four" trails,
including Nose Dive, Goat, National and Starr, continue to
awe and humble even the most experienced skiers and riders.
Beginners and intermediates will find unmatched terrain,
both on Mt. Mansfield and adjacent Spruce Peak. Spruce offers
gentle, sweeping terrain for those just starting out or skiers
who would like to hone their skills. Every trail offers a
unique experience - that no two are alike in a world of ski
conglomerates - continues to delight skiers of all abilities.
People come to ski Stowe, VT for
an assortment of reasons; a few of which include famous cross-country
skiing, Vermont being the home state of Bill Koch, the only
American to win an Olympic medal for the sport. Particularly, in Stowe,
cross-country and snowshoe enthusiasts can choose from 150
kilometers of groomed inter-connected trails at four ski centers.
Stowe Vermont isn't just about skiing. Visitors can also take
in a horse-drawn sleigh ride, skating, snowmobiling, tobogganing, numerous
nightclubs, restaurants, and of course, shopping!
