Though not far from Stowe (about a 30-minute drive),
you will notice that life in Vermont’s Mad River Valley
takes on a different feel in the warmer months.
Route 100 winds
through this narrow valley and follows a river, providing a "snug & cozy" feeling
and a haven for Vermont artisans and outdoorsmen. Many locals
enjoy a periodic excursion to the Mad River Valley for a serene
day of shopping, dining, hiking, paddling and exploring. Unique
shopping can be found at the Artisans' Gallery, Cabin
Fever Quilts, Mad River Glass and The Store (featuring
kitchen, home and antique furnishings), to name a few, in Waitsfield.
Traveling a bit further south, a must see is the quaint village
of Warren and the famous Warren Store. Once a stage coach
inn, eclectic offerings combine all of the cozy traditions of
a classic country store with a sophisticated, "country casual" appeal.
Adjacent to the Warren Store are several other noteworthy galleries,
boutiques and the Alta Day Spa.
Outdoor activities in the Mad River Valley abound – from
hiking, cycling, paddling, fishing and more. The Vermont Icelandic
Horse Farm in Fayston offers wonderful trail rides, and Skijoring
day rides 802.496.7141.
To reach the Mad River Valley, simply follow Route
100 South from Stowe.
