A Guide To The Beautiful Vermont Foliage

During each year our environment signals the change in seasons in many subtle and a few obvious ways. The most commonly known exhibition of this trait is the change in foliage color, signaling the beginning of autumn. The Vermont foliage is especially known for its beauty and otherworldliness. Many have wondered before us why this event takes place. The native legend tells us that each year hunters in the sky kill the Great Bear, and its dripping blood stains the leaves red. While the hunters roast the Bear's meat, some drips turn other parts of Vermont foliage yellow.
The surreal Vermont foliage is comprised of many different leaves that sprung from the various trees in New England. One of these is American Beech, and on the youngest of these dry leaves remain throughout the entire winter. Its bark is pale gray and smooth; easily recognizable. Beech nuts are one of the favorite snacks of local bears which sometimes leave claw marks on the trees they climbed to grab a bite.
Vermont foliage is also represented by the Striped Maple, Sugar Maple and Red Maple. The most prevalent of these three is the Sugar Maple which produces the Maple syrup and sugar that Vermont and the rest of New England is so famous for. However, unlike the Red Maple and Sugar Maple, the Striped Maple has lemon-yellow fall foliage color. The wood of these maple trees is perfect for furniture, plywood or house modeling.
White Ash, with its composite leaves exhibits the clearest yellow color during fall. Its twigs on the other hand are dark-green to purplish-green in color. A perfect example of Vermont foliage during the fall, the fruits of White Ash hang in tightly-packed clusters. Its wood is very resistant to bending so it's primarily used for skis, baseball bats and the like.
